Subway to open 50 restaurants in Mexico next year

This year Subway in Mexico will add 10 restaurants to the 980 that it already has in the national territory, while for 2019 it plans to open another 50, as part of its growth strategy, said the director of business of the company in Mexico, Héctor Huerta.
In the framework of launching the new design of Subway Fresh Forward restaurants in Mexico City, which seeks to bring the public closer together, he stressed that despite the current situation of the food market, in the last three years the firm has grown between 6% and 7%.
“For the next year, we plan to exceed the thousand restaurants; we are estimating to close the year (2019) with about 45 or 50 new restaurants, plus other Fresh Forward, which will help us maintain the market share of 4.5%,” he said.
Hector Huerta commented that unlike other Latin American countries, in recent years Mexico has maintained a macroeconomic stability that “has allowed us to continue growing in the number of restaurants” and have an important representativeness and spearhead in the region.
Finally, the manager said that most of the ingredients used to make their products are obtained from local production, in contrast with about two years ago, when more than 70% was imported, mainly from U.S.
