Thanks to online shopping beauty products from all over the world are more accessible. The downside of this accessibility though is the spread of expired and fake beauty products.

On the tv show “Kapuso Mo, Jessica Soho,” three women shared their bad experience with expired and fake beauty products.

First there’s Genevieve, 31, who got intense red spotting in her underarms after applying a whitening product she bought online.

According to a dermatologist, the cream caused an irritation because it was too strong for her skin type.

Fake and expired beauty products are not only present in online shops, these risky products can also be found in physical stores.

Next, 17 year old Shayren, whose lips became swollen and infected after applying a lip tint. The lip tint came from a friend who bought it for P40 at a vendor stall. The product also didn’t have a seal.

Lastly, 20-year-old Juliane, suddenly experienced an intense breakout on her face, after using a BB Cream that she bought cheaply at another small stall.

To avoid the horror stories these ladies experienced, one should take note of these three safety tips on buying beauty products:

1. Price. Avoid buying products that are priced too cheap are below the average price. The contents of overly cheap beauty products may have been exchanged with harmful materials.

2. Seal. Seals on any product is important, as it means that the product is new. This is even more important for beauty products since they will be applied on one’s body. Beauty products with no seals are dangerous. Chances are they have been tampered with.

3. The FDA list.  Checking the Food and Drug Administration’s list of approved products is the easiest and surest way to check if a product is safe. It’s better to be safe than to buy a product not on the list.
