Two young female students from the Monterrey Institute of Technology (ITESM): María Fernanda Nava and Adriana Vargas, in collaboration with a medical student from the same institution Javier Ceballos, have created a pantyliner that can detect vaginal infections.

The innovating pantyliner will allow women to detect both infections and cervical cancer in a timely manner and at a low cost, only US $0.25 approximately per piece.

The pantyliner is equipped with intelligent and hypoallergenic spheres that change color depending on the woman´s pH levels, which usually change when the patient experiences a vaginal infection. If such is the case, the pad turns its color into intense pink, according to Fernanda Nava.

The project is called LifeDrop and won gold at the “Jump Chile contest”, which aims to turn student projects into business models. This is the 1st time that a Mexican project wins 1st place at this competition.
