Luhut claims 30 Companies ready to invest into a New Capital City

The Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Investment Luhut Binsar Pandjaitan claimed around 30 companies had expressed an interest in investing in the new capital, East Kalimantan. These companies will help build a special cluster that is open to the private sector.

"As many as 30 companies come from domestic and abroad. There are electricity companies, cars, water pumping companies, various kinds," Luhut said in a discussion titled 'Knitting the Connectivity of the State Capital' in Central Jakarta, Wednesday, February 26, 2020.

Luhut explained that companies that had stated their intention were from various countries. He gave an example, some of which include the United Arab Emirates, the United States of Hungary, Japan, China, and Australia.

In addition, Luhut said that there were several countries which had offered to openly participate in investing. The offer was submitted to a number of Indonesian Cabinet ministers when attending state meetings, such as the G20.

Based on data compiled from the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime and Investment Affairs, foreign investor interest is currently spread over several cooperation schemes and sectors. Among there are three foreign institutions intend to invest through the Sovereign Wealth Fund (SWF) scheme, one country wants to invest with a bilateral fund scheme.

Furthermore, five foreign companies are interested in investing in securities, one company is interested in the field of insurance, four companies are interested in the drinking water sector, three companies are in the electricity sector, one company for the waste / solid waste sector, one company for the health facility sector, one company for housing, one company for retail, five companies interested in transportation, one company is interested in investment in telecommunications, and six companies are interested in industry.
