Mercado Libre Mexico grew in sales during contingency

Sales through the Mercado Libre platform in Mexico totaled US $95 million in the first quarter of 2020, a growth of 81% over the same period, driven mainly by the COVID-19 outbreak in March.
“In the same period, the platform added three million users, the largest increase recorded at the time and part of these results was attributed to the contingency” said David Geisen, General Director of Mercado Libre Mexico.
By Mexico´s phase 2 of the health crisis, sales increase by 2% and the search trend changed to products such as: alcohol, mouthpieces and respiratory masks.
According to Mercado Libre, between March 12 and 19, online sales of household items like cleaning detergents skyrocketed 400%, and pharmaceutical items jumped 114%.
