【COVID-19】TAITRA Plans to Organize Taiwanese Businesses to Participate in Content Tokyo 2021

Japan's largest content licensing exhibition (Content Tokyo) was scheduled to be held at Tokyo Big Sight April 1-3, 2020 but had to be postponed due to the COVID-19 outbreak. The exhibition organizers initially postponed the event to Oct. 27-30, but later announced Oct. 21-23 as the final date.

Taiwan’s Central Epidemic Command Center (CECC) posted an updated list of countries/regions eligible for shortened quarantine periods in Taiwan. The CECC reported that coronavirus cases are rapidly increasing in Japan, with more than 1,000 new cases per day and the majority of them originating in Japan’s urban areas where frequent social exchanges and travel with Taiwan occur. The cumulative total of COVID-19 infections in Japan reached 40,000 on August 3, taking only 7 days to surpass 50,000 by August 10.

In light of this update, the Taiwan CECC has removed Japan from the category of medium-risk countries, further restricting business travel between the two countries.

By participating in Content Tokyo, TAITRA intended to assist Taiwan's original brands, animation productions, and art licensors to expand into Japan and international markets. The pandemic and the resulting travel restrictions meant many participants will not be able to attend the exhibition in Tokyo in October. Therefore, we have made the decision to pause the Taiwanese brands’ participation in Content Tokyo this year. However, TAITRA will again plan the showcase of Taiwanese brands in this industry-leading exhibition platform next year on July 14(Wed) - 16(Fri), 2021.
