【COVID-19】Taiwanese team wins 2020 Red Dot Award for exhibition design

The 2019 Love Kaohsiung Lumière Festival(2019 LOVE高雄追光季), a project by Taiwanese event planning team Chill-Chill (濪濪) and B'IN Live Co.(必應創造), has been selected to receive the 2020 Red Dot Award for Spatial Communication-Exhibition Design under the Brands & Communication Design category, the Red Dot announced on August 3.
The immersive festival, which took place from Dec 6, 2019 to Jan. 5, 2020, featured five themed exhibition areas: Anooki x Christmas Tree of Lights, Tree of Wishes, City Light Stream, Ocean Light Space, Shades of Light, Light Labyrinth, and Chill Zone. Each area displayed its distinct artistic integration of light and shadow, creating an eye-catching visual effect that breaks free from the traditional lighting design.
By integrating exhibition design, technology for live performances, installation art, totems, and pop culture, the month-long festival offered visitors an immersive experience that speaks the messages the participating artists seek to convey, according to the Taipei-based team.
Speaking of competing with professionals and teams from around the world, Chill-Chill's Chief Executive Officer Angel Chen (陳宜盈) said that it is spirit lifting for the team to stand out and be recognized.
According to Red Dot press release, 6,992 projects from designers, agencies, and companies from 50 countries were entered in this year's competition and only 13 percent of entries receive an award.
Composed of three categories: Product Design, Brands & Communication Design, and Design Concept, the German award is established internationally as one of the most competitive quality marks for exceptional achievement in design.
This is not the first time Taiwan shines at the prestigious award, Taiwanese designers garnered a total of 24 Red Dot awards in Design Concept category in 2018. In 2016, designer Chang Ching-ping (張清平) became the first Taiwanese to win the highest honor for interior design at the award.
