Leroy Merlin disclosed revenue for 2020

Leroy Merlin ”is an international retailer specializing in the sale of goods for construction, decoration and home improvement, cottages and gardens. The company was founded in 1923 in the north of France, and today it ranks first in Europe in terms of turnover.

The first Leroy Merlin store in Russia opened its doors to customers in 2004 in Mytishchi, Moscow region. Currently, 109 Leroy Merlin hypermarkets in 57 cities of Russia offer their customers a wide range of goods and services at the most affordable prices, as well as training programs, repair workshops, expert advice, etc. More than 37 thousand employees, the company is one of the best employers in Russia.

Leroy Merlin has disclosed its 2020 sales revenue in Russia. The indicator increased by 11% to 417.7 billion rubles including VAT. The share of proceeds from online trading tripled to 9%.

 The company drew attention to the fact that against the backdrop of the pandemic, the volume of online sales showed great growth.

The pandemic also prompted the retailer to "begin an internal transformation and redefine development priorities for the next few years."

The growth of the online direction in the company is explained by the reorientation to darkstore during the period of self-isolation of stores on darkstore.

Also in the DIY network, they talked about the dynamics of localization of suppliers. At the end of last year, the share of Russian manufacturers increased by 3% and reached 80% by the end of 2020.

The past year has helped the retailer to reconsider its priorities, said Laurent Defassier, General Director of Leroy Merlin in Russia. “In the near future, the company will focus on three strategic goals: increasing the attractiveness of the omnichannel store, developing work with professionals and e-commerce,” Defassier said.

Nikolay Abu-Rzheyli, Deputy General Director of Leroy Merlin told New Retail about the goals and objectives of the digital transformation of Leroy Merlin. The retailer is purposefully building an entire ecosystem that will offer consumers goods and services on a single platform. To do this, the company plans to restart the marketplace, which has already been built within the Leroy Merlin business in previous years.

The strategy is to move from a traditional DIY retailer, offering goods for renovation and construction through a network of offline sites, to an omnichannel platform company that provides everything you need to renovate your home with full support at all stages - from idea to final implementation. On the basis of this platform,  the company creates an ecosystem of service providers and goods, in the center of which will be the client. 

Leroy Merlin also plans to develop work with the segment of professionals, study and segment the audience in order to better know its customers and offer them the goods and services that they need most.

The set of services will gradually expand as part of the creation of the ecosystem. Along with the existing possibilities for the installation of kitchens, doors or windows, for example, Leroy Merlin already developing new services for the creation of design, design and installation of engineering systems, renovation of apartments and much more. All this will require the search and development of new service providers. The end result of this transformation will be greater satisfaction for  the customers, and for the company - maintaining the leadership position that it currently occupies in the market.
