A new application called Agro Bizz - Smart Agro Integration Platform developed with new technology was recently launched with the objective to save the farmer and the consumer from the middleman mafia.

The first-ever Smart Agro Integration platform was launched under the auspices of the Ministry of Plantation Industries and the Ministry of Agriculture in collaboration with several private institutions.

Minister of Plantation Industries Ramesh Pathirana, Minister of Agriculture Mahindananda Aluthgamage, State Ministers Roshan Ranasinghe, Janaka Wakkumbura and other Ministry officials were present on the occasion.

The platform is developed by Colombo-based Celata Tech (Pvt) Ltd, a Geographical Information System Provider who develops mobile applications and web-based applications.

The primary function of the new application (Agrobiz Platform) is to interconnect all stakeholders including farmers, buyers, retailers, food processors, exporters, fertilizer and pest control suppliers, transportation, agricultural base equipment suppliers and government institutions and fields, etc., directly without the involvement of intermediaries.

The objective of this project is to develop a comprehensive state-of-the-art, Open Source, Common Agriculture Information System Platform to integrate Spatial and Non – Spatial data related to the agriculture sector in Sri Lanka with the information provided by the farmers and agriculture-related organizations.

The entire nation’s agriculture base spatial information hosted on a single platform with non-spatial data to be used by government and non-government entities to manage farmers, farms, crops, fertilizer, pesticides, seeds, retailers (small, medium and large scale), food processors, exporters, soil, water supply (agricultural), and pest control in a single platform.

Most importantly, this platform will also be enabled to forecast crop yield, fertilizer requirement, seed requirement, manage financial aid/subsidiaries, and most importantly eliminating man in the middle by developing a supply chain management through the online trading platform to directly link farmers with buyers.

AgroBizz Platform works in partnership with the National Savings Bank and the Savings Bank of Sri Lanka to provide microfinance facilities to farmers as well as small-scale buyers for their needs.

The AgroBizz Platform not only facilitates farmers and related stakeholders but also provides geographically based analytical data with the Artificial Intelligent facility to authorities such as the Ministry of Export Agriculture, the Ministry of Agriculture, the Ministry of Finance, and the Ministry of Trade.
