The total dentistry market in Romania is estimated at 424 million euros in 2020, almost 15 times more than in 2008, the increase being mainly due to the digitalization of modern dentistry and growing concerns of Romanians for their oral health.
Analyzing the data provided by the Chamber of Commerce and Industry, it is obvious that the players on the dental services market were not bypassed by the economic effects of the COVID-19 pandemic, especially in the context in which the clinics were closed for two months, to comply with restrictions imposed by the authorities.
Thus, the registered revenues, in 2020, decreased by 4% vs the previous year, in the conditions of a forecasted increase of 15-16%. However, comparing the revenues recorded in the 10 months of activity in 2020 with those reported in a similar period of 2019, it can be concluded that the dental market has actually increased by 14%.
This value is not far from the forecasts regarding the average annual growth, which shows that the Romanian patient continued to be concerned about his dental health, and his option was mainly directed to clinics that guaranteed the safety of treatments and results as expected.
The pandemic has significantly influenced our behavior in all aspects of social life, including visits to the dentist.
A study conducted by the group of dental clinics DENT ESTET, established leader of the private dental market in Romania, at urban level, in 2020, revealed that 38% of Romanians visited a dental office less than once a year or only when needed, the main reasons why I go to the dentist are dental emergencies.
Even if another study conducted by KANTAR in January 2021, at the national level, indicates that the choice of the dentist is still based in 85% on the criterion of trust, a major change can be observed in relation to the degree of patient information on currently available dental treatments.
The dental market, which is still quite fragmented, although there are clinics with a turnover of over 1 million euros, experienced unprecedented dynamics in 2020. Important market players such as DENT ESTET, Implant Expert and Integra Medical Services, reported increases in turnover compared to 2019 and continued to expand nationwide.
Thus, DENT ESTET, part of the MedLife medical group, reported a turnover of 13 million euros, increasing by 5% compared to 2019.
Other companies in the top 10 players on the Romanian dental market also reported increasing operating revenues in 2020, compared to 2019. This is the company Implant Expert, with a turnover of 12 million euros, Valuma, 3 million euros, or Integra Medical Services, with 2 million euros.
These increases have allowed the dental clinics a more accelerated development and investments in the national expansion, in order to be able to offer as many Romanians as possible high-performance treatments and access to the latest technology.
