TAITRA hosts the Gaming Industry International Forum - Finding Opportunities in the Touchless Economy and Its Post-Pandemic Future

Of all the technologies that affect gaming, 5G will have the most impact by allowing everyone to stream super-fast internet. According to a study by Grand View Research, “the global 5G services market size is expected to reach US$41.48 billion in 2020 and US$46.61 billion in 2021.” With the rapid development of Internet and 5G communication technologies, the popularity of physical stores and public areas of entertainment and leisure has decreased and been increasingly replaced by the ‘digital home economy’. This includes a growing number of online and mobile applications in products and services in the areas of entertainment, gaming, streaming media, custom-design, home shopping, and a variety of digital content. To further explore this topic, TAITRA held the International Gaming Forum with Finding Opportunities in the Touchless Economy and Its Post-Pandemic Future, on July 3, 2020. A panel was convened to discuss 5G and gaming, and included Johnny Jan, CEO of Winking Corporation; Hirokazu Hamamura, Vice-President of Japan Esports Union (JeSU); and Kim Eung Won, Brand Manager at SK Telecom Korea. 5G connectivity will benefit the online gaming industry in many ways and will provide gaming platforms with a way to unlock new potential in their apps. 5G or fifth-generation mobile wireless technology could significantly change how we consume content on the Internet. Wireless networks will see a significant increase in speed and responsiveness. As a result of higher speed, lower latency and higher bandwidth, we can expect to see a much higher volume of data transmission. 5G will transform the gaming industry, bringing key changes including a boost to mobile cloud gaming, multiplayer mobile gaming, VR, AR, MR and XR in the gaming industry. 5G will also enable dynamic in-game advertising and streaming, with mobile users able to play their favorite games without worrying about data caps. With 5G, users will better enjoy games on their mobile devices and their mobile batteries will last longer. Most importantly, 5G will drive game developers to create better mobile game apps!
