In order to cover the growing demand for transportation in the Riviera Maya and offer better options to local users and tourists, the “Metrobus” will be launched to cover the route from Cancun to Tulum, with an initial investment of US $12.5 million as a result of the joint collaboration of the local companies Turicún, Autocar, Maya Caribe and Cooperativa Bonfil.

Francisco Palma Leal, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Autocar, informed that this new service will start operations this year and will have 100 buses that will cover the transfer from Cancun and 40 units from Tulum, in order to meet the demand of passengers and reduce the use of automobiles for those who work in the Riviera Maya area.

He explained that this new project will generate an initial 1,500 new direct jobs and is intended to serve about 50 thousand users a day, on a route that will depart from the center of Cancun and some will pass through the hotel zone, to the International Airport, and from there, it will go to Tulum, covering a distance of 104 km, with stopovers in towns and other destinations along the Riviera.

The entrepreneurs announced that the units are 16 to 18 meters long, new model, super-articulated, with four-axle reinforced chassis, powered by natural gas and that meet the standard of being an Environmentally Friendly Vehicle complying with the Advanced Environmental (EEV, for its acronym in English) regulations, which reduces the emissions of particulate material and does not generate pollution.
