South Africa tops the list for having the most developed transport and logistics sector in Sub-Saharan Africa placing it on a par with some of the world's industrialised countries. South Africa is also regarded the best performer in Africa when it comes to trade facilitation logistics and among the best in terms of transport infrastructure. This is according to The PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC).

Amongst other logistics networks in South Africa, shipping companies contribute a lot to the trade carried out around the world. South Africa, like other countries, has a great maritime business background. Shipping companies are providing huge money in this country to push up financially and economically. Shipping industry in South Africa is very vast and also provides many companies to export and import goods to other parts of the world.

 

South Africa has three thousand (3000) kilometres coastline, correctly positioned along the sea trading route. We have the world's largest bulk coal terminal port in Richard Bay. Durban Port is the busiest in Africa and the largest container facility in the Southern Africa. The Port of Ngqura is the deepest container terminal in Africa. The Port of Cape Town is the biggest refrigerated container facility in Africa. Saldhana Bay is the largest port in Africa by water footprint. South Africa is among the top fifteen (15) countries that trade by sea.

South Africa does not own shipping lines. But in south Africa, we have logistics companies, shipping companies and freight forwarders who use shipping lines to ship goods overseas. None of the South African logistics companies own their own shipping lines.
