Ministry of Health launches national campaign for optimal use of antibiotics

The Director of Infection Prevention Department at the Ministry of Health, Dr Ahmed Al-Mutawa, has warned of the dangers of misuse of antibiotics, the decision of the Minister of Health Sheikh Dr Basel Al-Sabah to reconstitute the National Committee for the rational use of antibiotics to keep up with the global recommendations and face challenges in the field of antibiotics and the spread of resistant germs.
The Department of Infection Prevention has taken the first steps in the committee work to conduct field surveys of all hospitals in the State of Kuwait to evaluate the supervision programs on the use of antibiotics.
The results of studies showed that 83 percent of hospitals and State of Kuwait have policies on antibiotics, and includes all types of antibiotics, the appropriate dose, the number of uses and duration of treatment, rates ranging between 76 to 97 percent.
