Euroopt was the first retail chain in Belarus to start using technology to pay for purchases using a mobile phone using a QR code, the company’s press service said. We are talking about the development of Smart Pay of the Belarusian group of companies “BISMART”. The test operation was carried out on November 26 at the box office of the Minsk hypermarket on 2 Montazhnikov Street.
It is planned that in January 2020, after the completion of the pilot operation period, Euroopt will be able to offer a new method of payment to customers. At the first stage, customers of Statusbank, and later customers of other banks, will be able to use it.
Payment for purchases can be made through the mobile application on your smartphone, using money from your bank accounts.
“The work is based on the technology of splitting a transaction into separate, unrelated logical parts, each of which does not mean anything by itself, therefore, even after gaining access to mobile phone data, an attacker will not be able to harm the user,” the director of the company said. BISMART Roman Suschinsky.
The company notes that in the future the buyer will not need bank cards or loyalty systems - it will be enough to take a personal smartphone of any manufacturer, including inexpensive models, without an NFC module with you to the store.
The process of paying for purchases using a mobile phone using the QR code consists of several actions.
- The buyer informs the cashier about the desire to pay for purchases with a QR payment, and the cashier activates a new payment method.
- The buyer opens the application on the smartphone, which comes with a unique QR code. It remains to attach the phone to the scanner and confirm the payment.
- An electronic check comes to the buyer’s application.
There are no commissions or hidden fees for the buyer.
Payments using a QR code have gained great popularity in the world. For example, in China, they almost supplanted cash and bank cards.
- With the increase in the share of smart payments, that is, payments by phone using a QR code, retailers will be able to reduce the cost of acquiring services. Today, a significant part of the cost of this service is transferred in favor of international payment systems, thus there is an outflow of currency from the country. By reducing its costs, trade will have the opportunity and lower prices for buyers. On the other hand, we can talk about reducing Belarus’s dependence on international payment systems in making payments on the local market, commented the event on the general director of the Euroopt retail chain Andrei Zubkov.
