During the pandemic, interest in online shopping grew rapidly. There is nearly a 400 percent increase in the grocery sector of e-shopping. Almost 1.7 thousand new online stores were created. Polish companies must try to keep at least some new customers.

The e-commerce market has grown double-digit in previous years. This year can be special because, during the pandemic, Poles went shopping online. Many companies were flooded with orders. - Internet sales doubled during this time - says Grzegorz Pilch, president of VRG, owner of the brands Vistula (garments) and W.Kruk (jewelry). There is also a similar increase in the online sale in LPP (Reserved or House brands) and in CCC. Nearly 15,000 brands and companies started selling their products on the biggest e-commerce platform in Poland – Allegro.

In 2019 over 60% of Internet users have purchased products online. This year's result will certainly be much higher, even if only some of the new buyers remain in this sales channel. According to the data of the Shoper platform, which operates over 13 thousand stores, it shows that in April the number of transactions in e-grocery stores increased by 374 percent, and in online drugstores by 126 percent.

“In March, there was a growth in sales of online grocery stores, online drugstores and toy e-stores.  April was a month of selling record for sellers of computer equipment and home and garden accessories, '' says Oliwia Tomalik, marketing manager at Shoper. “We are talking about a few hundred percent growths, which means that many new customers have appeared on the network.”. It is clear that those sales peaks are only “seasonal” and lock-down related, however, several million people who have so far made online purchase have found, that they can do so not only on special occasions, but also on a daily basis.

The pandemic has made e-commerce stronger and many companies have realized the importance of online shopping. Reshuffling on the market already indicates that investments will be directed towards e-commerce, instead of investment in stationary retail outlets. The coronavirus acted as a catalyst and accelerated trends that had been climbing for years and were expected to flourish in the next decade. Businesses that have invested in online distribution have seen the benefits of this channel, often being the only source of revenue.
