It includes events from an economic forum to culinary exhibitions and other events

The International Lavender Festival has started in Chirpan. The events range from an economic forum to culinary exhibitions and all of them are subordinated to lavender, which is now blooming.

The idea is for as many people as possible to enjoy the unique views of the lavender fields in the area.

Lavender growers are alerting to problems. "Since Bulgaria became the largest producer of lavender oil in the world, there have been problems. The market saturated and this led to falling prices. They are expected to be lower this year than last year ", said Slavi Staykov, a lavender producer.

Chirpan and lavender

In 1907, the first experimental plantations of French lavender seedlings were made in the Chirpan region. According to the latest data, in the area of Chirpan and the Daskalovi Brothers there are nearly 32-34,000 decares with enchantment flower plantations. According to the mayor of Chirpan, there is no agricultural cooperative in the municipality that does not grow lavender.

The small amount of oil at the expense of a higher content of linalilacetate is the calling card of lavender plantations in this area, say the organizers. According to the latest data in Bulgaria, the lavender fields are nearly 200,000 decares, most of which are in Dobrudja.
The lavender boom of Bulgaria

In recent years, Bulgaria has become a market leader in lavender, ahead of even the traditional leading producer - France. Ivan Georgiev, one of the largest producers in the region, said that the buyers of the native lavender oil are mainly from France. Bulgaria has traditions in the production of the aromatic plant, but until before 2011 it was always in second place. The bacterium Stolbur destroyed about half of the plantations in France and this opened the doors of the Bulgarian lavender, whose main client was the affected country.

Leading experts in the world are adamant that the native lavender oil is one of the highest quality and is preferred on the market. More than 100 tons of lavender oil are exported from Bulgaria annually. The main countries that buy from the local market are France, Germany, Austria, Switzerland, Italy, USA, Japan, Dubai, Kuwait, Bahrain and Saudi Arabia.
