The Bulgarian Ministry of Transport received 32 bids for new trains

Public procurement procedures will be announced for BGN 1.7 billion for the renovation of the railway park

Market consultations for the new Bulgarian trains have ended, procedures for BGN 1.7 billion are to be announced. By the deadline for receiving proposals, which expired on June 30, 32 proposals were received for all five invitations, the transport ministry announced.

From there they remind us that this is the largest commissioned order under the National Plan for Recovery and Sustainability.

The Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTS) states that this type of market research is being conducted for the first time, and its goal is to achieve maximum transparency and efficiency in the use of public resources, as well as to attract the best Bulgarian companies and international companies to participate.

"We will take full advantage of the opportunities given to us by the Law on Public Procurement in order to acquire the most modern and reliable trains and equipment under the best conditions - both in terms of price and technology", commented the Minister of Transport Nikolay Sabev.

By the end of the deadline, some of the world's largest manufacturers and suppliers of rolling stock and on-board equipment have submitted their indicative offers: Alstom, CAF, Hyundai Rotem, PESA Bydgoszsz, Siemens Mobility, Skoda Transportation, Stadler Rail, FPS Poznan Fabryka Pojazdow Szynowych, KONCAR-Electric vehicles Inc., Thales, Talgo, Express Service, Vossloh Locomotives GmbH, CZ LOKO a.s. и CRRC Corporation Limited.

After a detailed examination of all proposals, MTS will shortly announce public procurements under the five invitations for a total value of BGN 1.7 billion. 

It is expected that by the middle of 2026, Bulgaria will have a renewed railway fleet of the latest generation.

By order of the Minister of Transport, the same approach will be applied by NC "Railway Infrastructure" for both of the company's projects approved under the National Recovery and Sustainability Plan. They are for the construction of an intermodal terminal in Ruse and for the implementation of ERTMS, level 2, in the Ruse - Kaspichan railway section.
