Electric cars in Poland tripled in two years

The number of registrations of new passenger EVs in Poland increased by over 22,000 units, or 69 percent from that in 2021. In the last two years, the fleet of electric vehicles in Poland has tripled, according to data from the Polish Association of Alternative Fuels (PSPA).
Over the first 11 months of 2022, the number of electric vehicles increased by almost 70%, the PSPA said, noting that a total of 22,413 first registrations of electric vehicles were recorded in the passenger car segment in 2022, which was more than the entire pool of such vehicles in Poland at the end of 2020.
Almost 19,000 came from the domestic primary market, while just over 3,000 are from overseas. It was also the first time the total number of all-electric Battery Electric Vehicles (29,780 units) had exceeded that of plug-in hybrids (29,407 units).
According to the "Electromobility Counter" conducted by PSPA and the Polish Automotive Industry Association, at the end of November 2022, a total of 62,135 passenger and commercial electric cars were registered in Poland, which means that in the period of 11 months of 2022, the EVs in Poland increased by 69 percent year-on-year, and over three times from the end of 2020.
"Global and European trends in the area of e-mobility allow us to assume that by 2025 the number of newly registered electric cars in Poland will increase at least several times," said Jan Wiśniewski, Director of the PSPA Research and Analysis Centre.
According to PSPA estimates, the budget of the "My Electrician" program available at the end of November 2022 should be sufficient to support another 16,300 zero-emission cars, which may be exhausted even in 2023 or in the first half of 2024. In this context, the association is urging to increase the budget or new programs to prevent stagnation on the electromobility market.
