Netflix has announced plans to open an engineering centre in Polish capital, Warsaw, a move seen as to double down on its commitment to the central European country, eyeing Poland as a key market within Europe.

"We're excited to announce we're creating an engineering hub in Poland, based in our recently opened Warsaw office. Our engineers in Poland will help build the products that our internal and external creative partners use to deliver Netflix shows and films to members all around the world – hits like Wednesday, Glass Onion: A Knives Out Mystery and The Crown," Deborah Black, Netflix VP of engineering, said in a statement available on its official website.

According to Digital TV Europe, the office that Black referred to was unveiled earlier this year by Larry Tanz, Netflix VP of series in EMEA, who said at the time that the expanded Warsaw hub would help Netflix "build long-term cooperation in the region as well as deepen existing ties, creating new opportunities for content creators and producers."

Although the goal is for the hub to support Netflix's international activities, the decision to position it in Poland is a clear indication that the streamer regards the country as a key market within Europe, the media said.

The streamer, which is currently number one in Poland ahead of its rivals like HBO Max and Amazon Prime, has spent in excess of $100 million on original Netflix films and series in the country to date, Digital TV Europe reported.

"This January marks exactly six years since we launched our Polish language service, and we’ve now created over 30 Polish films and TV series, including hits like High Water and How I Fell in Love with the Gangster," said Black.

Explaining the rationale for basing the new engineering centre in Poland, Black said: "Poland has amazing engineering talent given its excellent universities and strong developer community, and we can't wait to see the innovation and creativity that comes from our hub here. We are recruiting for business application software engineers."
