President of Nigeria Computer Society (NCS), Prof. Sodiya Adesina, has noted an increase in adoption of Information and Communication Technology (ICT) by individuals, governments and corporate organisations.

At the International Conference in Bauchi State, where NCS inducted 884 new members, he stated: “Nigeria and other countries have continued to adopt many e-systems and other technological solutions for competitive and sustainable growth.”

Theme of this year’s conference is ‘Communication and e-Systems for Economic Stability (CeSEST)’.

Sodiya added that communications and electronic systems have the potential to achieve lasting positive impact on economic prosperity, development and stability of any nation.

“A viable communication infrastructure will facilitate enhanced service delivery and efficiency in agriculture, production, healthcare, business, education, social interaction and national planning. The reliability and quality of national communication infrastructure is a critical factor for rapid growth of any nation.”

“Many of the digital solutions are developed within the country and some are considered foreign. The capacity and performance of existing and evolving e-systems have become a major consideration, especially with the increased dependence on these solutions for citizens’ well-being and better living.”

Bauchi Governor, Bala Mohammed, said the ICT sector contributed over N6 trillion to the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) in 2022, above the nation’s economic mainstay, according to the National Bureau of Statistics (NBS).

Represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Ibrahim Kashim, the governor said the society chose the most pertinent topic, considering the country’s effort to invest hugely in the ICT sector.

The event featured sessions for National Information Technology Development (NITDA) Youth Development, Education and Business, alongside induction of new members, fellows’ forum, Annual General Meeting (AGM) and IT quiz competition.
