The Cameroonian government is taking significant strides towards achieving its goal of becoming an emerging country by 2035. A key component of this ambitious plan is the development and enhancement of information and communication technologies (ICT), recognized as crucial drivers for economic and social transformation.

On August 23, Cameroon officially launched the Digital Transformation Acceleration Project (PATNuC), a major initiative spearheaded by the Minister of Posts and Telecommunications, Minette Libom Li Likeng. This project, which is a testament to the government's commitment to digital advancement, has garnered substantial support from the World Bank, receiving a funding of 100 million US dollars.

The PATNuC is designed with a multifaceted approach to revolutionize the ICT sector in Cameroon. Its objectives are comprehensive, aiming to continue reforms and policies within the sector, expand Internet access across the nation, and significantly improve the digital skills of the Cameroonian populace. In addition to these, the project also focuses on encouraging the development of digital applications and services, strengthening digital inclusion, and increasing the use of digital services. A critical aspect of PATNuC is its emphasis on stimulating employment and entrepreneurship, recognizing the pivotal role of digital technology in job creation and economic growth.

Minette Libom Li Likeng has highlighted that PATNuC is not just a project but embodies a broader digital transformation approach. This approach is geared towards revitalizing a sector that holds immense potential and importance for Cameroon. One of the key elements of PATNuC is the proposed reform of the regulatory framework governing the ICT sector, ensuring that it aligns with contemporary needs and global standards.

The project is expected to significantly contribute to the realization of the SND30 National Development Strategy and the broader "Vision 2035". This vision aims to transform Cameroon into “an emerging country, democratic and united in its diversity”. The government envisions this transformation through structural changes in the economy and fostering inclusive development. By leveraging the power of digital technology, Cameroon is poised to make substantial progress towards its goal of emerging status, setting a precedent for ICT-driven development in the region.
