The International Paper, Publishing, and Print Expo Abuja 2023, held at the Ladi Kwali Hall within the Continental Hotel, formerly known as the Sheraton Hotel, Abuja, Nigeria, witnessed a flurry of activities on October 24, 2023. This highly anticipated event, themed “The Power of Synergy in the Print Ecosystem,” brought together a diverse array of participants within the print value chain, including printers, print buyers, publishers, paper suppliers, and various other organizations.

The grand hall of Ladi Kwali was bustling with numerous print exhibitors and esteemed visitors, including delegates from prominent institutions such as WAEC, NECO, JAMB, universities, the Ministry of Defense, aviation authorities, educational institutions, schools, churches, banks, and other valuable print buyers. Observers and attendees were impressed by the sheer number of print stakeholders, visitors, and exhibitors who showcased their innovative products and cutting-edge equipment.

The distinguished Chairman of the event, Mr. Mohammed Idris Malaga, who is also the Minister of Information and National Orientation, officially inaugurated IPPPEX Abuja 2023 in a grand ceremony. He was represented by Alhaji Yahaya Anfanni, the CEO/MD of Yaliam Printing Press. The second day of the event was elegantly chaired by Engineer Michael Bamidele Akinola, the MD/CEO of Marvelous Mike Press Ltd, and he was duly represented by Mr. Kunle Fashanu, the Director and Admin of Marvelous Mike Press Ltd.

Under the overarching theme of “The Power of Synergy in the Print Ecosystem,” the conference arena at IPPPEX Abuja 2023 was brimming with print stakeholders and thought leaders who discussed the significance of collaboration within the print industry.

Dr. Rotimi Oladele, the keynote speaker, emphasized, “The print ecosystem is driven by continuous disruptive innovation, dynamic creativity, and a market consisting of impulsive buyers. To secure a brighter future, we must provide the youth with the right training and education, which is currently lacking in our technical and vocational institutions. Collaboration between machine manufacturers and local artisans is essential to address the challenges faced by the print industry.”

Oladele further highlighted the need for government support, including print-friendly laws, essential infrastructure, and policies to empower small and medium-sized print businesses. He also advocated for scholarships for students pursuing printing and related careers.

Akin Oduwole, the MD/CEO of Technology Global Ltd, discussed the evolving technological landscape’s impact on the print ecosystem, emphasizing the move from mass production to personalization and on-demand printing. He highlighted the role of 3D printing in transforming various industries.

Mr. Kayode Alonge, the MD/CEO of Printway Ltd, addressed the challenges posed by rising paper costs, currency fluctuations, and an unstable economy in Nigeria. He suggested strategies for cost management, including diversifying paper sources, negotiating with suppliers, embracing digital alternatives, and adopting efficient printing practices.

The panel discussion session of the event provided an interactive and impactful platform for stakeholders and participants to delve into the state of the printing sector in Nigeria and the power of synergy in the print ecosystem as a solution to its challenges.

Prominent exhibitors at the expo included XEROX NIG (Platinum sponsor), MARVELOUS MIKE PRESS LTD (Gold sponsor), Pantone Ltd, Brandville Nig Ltd, Ro-Marong Nig Ltd, Satellite Group, Printway Limited, and many more. The event attracted over 1,000 visitors, making it a resounding success.
