In 2023, Kraków Airport handled over 9.4 million passengers, a historic high, and it was the first regional port in Poland to exceed the 9 million-passenger thresholds, according to the airport's president, Radosław Włoszek. Aiming high, Włoszek also said the number can exceed 10 million this year, which marks the 60th anniversary of the facility.

"We want to handle 10 million passengers, but like last year, we realize that we are in such volatile times that we need to be prepared for a full range of events and solutions," he said.

Krakow Airport, located in southern Poland, recorded an increase in passenger traffic last year in cooperation with 25 airlines, traditional and low-cost. These airlines offered 161 connections to 123 airports in 113 cities and 35 countries.

According to statistics, in 2023 passengers were most likely to choose to travel from Krakow to the UK, Italy, Germany and Spain. Passengers' favorite cities in terms of passengers carried were London, Oslo and Warsaw, respectively. During the summer, Italian, Spanish and Turkish destinations were very popular.

Passengers were also keen on transatlantic flights to New York and Chicago offered by LOT, and domestic flights to Warsaw, Olsztyn, Gdansk and Poznan offered by the two base carriers LOT and Ryanair.

The airport's most important general plans for the coming years, which amount to approximately PLN 3 billion are the construction of a new runway and the expansion of the passenger terminal along with the internal transport system. Once these projects are completed, the Krakow airport should reach a capacity of 16 million passengers a year, its managing company said.
