Poland's Central Communication Port (CPK) has received approval for the construction of a section under the center of Lodz for the High-Speed Railway, as part of the Central Transportation Port between Warsaw and Lodz that aims to integrate air, road and rail transportation.

The tunnel is to be 4.6 kilometers long and about 14 meters in diameter. In connection with this investment, the foundations of the Lodz House of Culture, which is located along the route, have been strengthened for several months. The construction of the CPK's long-distance tunnel in Lodz for High Speed Rail has been divided into three stages.

"Obtaining a building permit allows construction work on the High-Speed Rail tunnel in Lodz to begin. This is one of the most challenging sections included in the Y railroad line and at the same time our most advanced project," said CPK President Mikolaj Wild.

The tunnel will be designed for long-distance trains. Within Lodz, high-speed trains will stop at the Lodz Fabryczna station. The tunnel's exit to the surface is to be located southwest of Lodz Kaliska. Further on, the route is to be routed west toward Sieradz, beyond which there will be a fork in the direction of Poznań and Wrocław.

The Central Transport Port of Lodz investment is part of the North Sea-Baltic corridor within the TEN-T core network. Thus, it is part of the Trans-European Transport Route.

As part of the rail program, the Central Communication Port is preparing the construction of 12 lines, leading from various regions of Poland to Warsaw and the Solidarity Port. The total is 30 investment tasks, as well as about 2,000 Km of new rail lines. It is assumed that the new rail connections will enable travel between Warsaw and the CPK and most of Poland's largest cities in no more than 2.5 hours.
