In Russia, in 2024, the pace of installation of charging stations for electric cars will double

In Russia, it is planned to put into operation in 2024 1,437 fast (50 or more kilowatts) electric charging stations (gas stations) for electric vehicles. The relevant Deputy Minister of Economic Development Maxim Kolesnikov told Vedomosti about this. This is more than 2 times higher than the actual volume of fast charging in 2023.

It is also planned to introduce 3206 slow electric heating systems (up to 50 kW) in the coming year, the deputy minister added. In 2023, it was planned to put 659 fast and 2163 slow chargers into operation, but as a result, the plan for fast EHS was increased by 38 pcs. due to the inclusion of three new pilot regions in the project to create infrastructure for electric cars, the deputy minister explained. We are talking about the Krasnoyarsk Territory, Yaroslavl and Kursk regions. The state subsidizes the installation of fast electronic charging stations within the framework of the federal program: up to 60% of the cost of the charging station is compensated (but not more than 1.86 million rubles) and up to 30% (up to 900,000 rubles) from the cost of technical connection to the power grid. In 2022, according to the Ministry of Economic Development, 439 fast and 783 slow chargers were installed in Russia.

The government's plans for the creation of charging infrastructure for electric vehicles are regulated by the concept for the development of electric transport for the period up to 2030. The document was approved in August 2021 and assumes the commissioning

of 9400 EPPS at the first stage (2021-2024), at least 2,900 of which will be fast. At least 25,000 electric vehicles should also be produced during this stage.

In December 2023, the analytical agency Autostat and the charging search service 2Chargers recalculated the number of public EHS in the country. According to their data, as of December 14, the total number of such charges in Russia was 3,783 units. At the same time, back in the middle of last year, 2Chargers believed that there were about 4,500 electric gas stations in the country.

This discrepancy arose due to the fact that only public charging stations appear in the Autostat report, the data of which is monitored by the service, explains the developer of the 2Chargers application, Alexander Kuznetsov. Private charging and sockets, which the app also shows, were not included in the December report, he noted. In addition, many new public charging providers have started to appear recently. This, according to Kuznetsov, created "some confusion" when registering existing EHS in their systems.

The fleet of electric cars and rechargeable hybrids in Russia on July 1, 2023 amounted to 32,700 units. (latest available data). At the same time, over the past year, Russians bought 14,089 electric vehicles – almost 5 times more than in 2022, according to Autostat data. The most popular brand was the Chinese Zeekr, its sales in 2023 increased 169 times to 3,724 cars. Evolute is in 2nd place - these electric cars from Chinese Dong Feng car kits are assembled by Lipetsk Motorinvest. Over the past year, 2020 such electric cars were purchased (an increase of 8 times year-on-year).

64% of electric car owners surveyed by Autostat have home charging. In 72% of cases, they charge their car at home, in 28% – at a public parking lot. At the same time, one public gas station in Russia accounts for on average nine electric cars, which corresponds to global indicators, says Sergey Udalov, Executive Director of Autostat.

This is really a good indicator for the city, agrees Iya Gordeeva, chairman of the Association for the Development of Electric, Unmanned and Connected Transport and Infrastructure. But in Russia, unlike in Europe, even within the framework of an urban agglomeration, we can talk about long distances, therefore, at the initial stages of the formation of electric propulsion, the charging infrastructure should spread at a pace ahead of the electric vehicle market, she believes.
